I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of Kingdown School, part of the brilliant Acorn Education Trust. Kingdown is a thriving, oversubscribed 11–18 secondary school in the heart of Warminster, with fantastic facilities, talented staff and wonderful young people.
Since joining Kingdown, I have been struck by the real sense of community and the commitment of our staff to making a difference to the lives of our students. We are ambitious for every young person, and our school values of Believe, Aspire, Achieve sit at the heart of everything we do.
We have so much to be proud of. Our academic outcomes are strong, regularly placing us among the top schools in Wiltshire for A-levels, applied courses and key GCSE subjects. Our Science GCSE results have placed us in the top 20% nationally. However, for me, success is about so much more than examination results. It is about ensuring every student feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve their very best, whatever their starting point.
We are fortunate to offer an incredible range of opportunities beyond the classroom. From over 50 extracurricular clubs and our thriving Duke of Edinburgh programme to sporting success, music, performing arts and trips both at home and abroad, we want our students to make memories, discover new interests and develop the confidence to take on new challenges.
We have high expectations of our students because we believe in them. Kindness, respect, positive relationships and a calm, purposeful learning environment are incredibly important to me. I want Kingdown to be a school where students are happy, feel safe and thrive, and where staff feel valued, supported and proud to work.
Our staff are at the heart of everything we achieve. I know that great schools are built on great people, and I am passionate about creating a culture where colleagues feel supported, are encouraged to share ideas, have opportunities to develop and genuinely enjoy coming to work. We work hard, we support one another and we celebrate the many brilliant things happening across our school every day.
As part of Acorn Education Trust, we benefit from being part of a wider family of schools, with opportunities for collaboration, professional development and career progression. It is an exciting time to be part of Kingdown, and I am determined that we continue to build on our strengths whilst always looking for ways to be even better.
Ultimately, I want our young people to leave Kingdown not only with excellent qualifications, but as confident, kind and well-rounded individuals who are ready for the world in their time.
If you are someone who shares our ambition for young people, believes in the power of education and wants to be part of a supportive, hardworking and forward thinking team, I would love you to consider joining us.
I look forward to welcoming you to Kingdown.
Shelley Tuke | Headteacher
Working together as a school in partnership with our students and parents, we aim to equip all students with the knowledge, skills and personal characteristics to succeed, and by ensuring all students leave school equipped with qualifications enabling progression to the next stage of education, training or employment.
As a school, we share a clear mission to bring about improvements in the life chances of our students through:
Putting our students at the heart of every decision we make
Offering our students great care and support
Delivering the highest quality teaching and learning to inspire and challenge our students, and to develop in them a lifelong love of learning
Delivering a whole-school focus on excellence at every level
Maximising students’ educational outcomes to ensure they can progress successfully
Bringing equality of educational experience to every student.
We are proud to be a part of the Acorn Education Trust. As a Trust, we believe passionately that every student:

The Acorn Education Trust was formed in August 2014 to create a local solution to a national strategy. Through close collaboration and a shared vision we believe each school will achieve great things while retaining their individual identity. Underpinning this close collaboration is a strong belief in our core purpose.
School improvement is the key to school effectiveness and is at the heart of the process of raising standards. It allows us to deliver an education for all children/students that is of the highest quality. The Acorn Education Trust is driven by its core purpose of improving outcomes and life chances for students and believes that an effective School Improvement Strategy is the key to unlocking the potential in its leaders, staff and children/students. An effective Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) uses the School Improvement Strategy to help ensure accountability, drive strategic thinking and deploy resources in order to improve outcomes for its children/students. Our leadership and management of each school is based on three principles:
Every school is an improving school
Leadership at every level is critical
The unique identity of each school must be preserved
